Overview Trend
Highlight the dataset to view and click the icon for Overview Trend from the Views menu. Alternatively, right click on the dataset, select View > Overview Trend.
Only double and integer fields can be trended.
Trend graph
A trend of all the data of the selected field will show, irrespective of the size of the dataset. Depending on the size of the dataset in relation to the data points threshold, either the actual data points will be trended, or average values of grouped data will be trended.
Data points threshold
For <200 data points:
-
the actual data points are plotted
-
a global minimum and maximum value is plotted, trended as a straight line at these values.
For >200 points:
-
Data is grouped into bins, and an average data value is plotted, including average minimum and maximum values in these bins.
-
To determine how many data rows are grouped into a bin, the following applies:
-
-
Row count / maximum trend point threshold of 200 = number of points per bin
-
Minimum threshold of 5 points per bin.
-
Example:
-
-
Dataset of 400 points = 400/200 = 2 points per bin
-
Considering the minimum threshold of 5 points per bin = 80 values will show, the average, minimum and maximum value from each bin of 5 data points.

Values
Depending on the size of the dataset, the values plotted are either the actual data points, or an average of data subsets. Refer to the section on the data points threshold.
-
X axis: row number
-
Y axis: data value
-
Field trend: This line plots the actual data point or the average values of a subset of data.
-
Minimum values: A plot of the global minimum, or the average minimum values of a subset of data.
-
Maximum values: A plot of the global maximum, or the average maximum values of a subset of data.
-
The standard deviation trends show the range of data variation, and illustrate the spread of data within the process limits.
Quality
Good quality data is shown in bar chart format, up to a maximum of 100%.
Depending on the size of the dataset, the quality values plotted are either the actual data point quality, or an average quality of data subsets. Refer to the section on the data points threshold.
Use the visualization of data quality to note:
-
the amount of bad quality data present
-
the influence of bad quality data on the values trend
-
the effect of bad quality on the minimum, maximum and standard deviation values.
Configuration
Properties
Configure the properties of the trend by checking the required features.
-
Only double or integer values can be trended.
Trend Types
Either the data values or the data quality percentage can be trended. Click the appropriate radio button to select the trend type. Depending on the size of the dataset, the points plotted are either the actual data point quality or value, or an average quality or value of data subsets. Refer to the section on the data points threshold.
-
Values: Checking the required blocks will display a line on the trend of that statistical value.
-
-
Uncheck the blocks to remove that line on the trend.
-
Plotting maximum and minimum values indicates the range of data points.
-
Plotting the standard deviations indicates the statistical spread of data within the process limits.
-
-
Quality %: The percentage of data that is good quality is plotted.
-
-
Conversely, negative spaces indicate bad quality.
-
Use the visualization of data quality to note:
-
-
the amount of bad quality data present
-
the influence of bad quality data on the values trend
-
the effect of bad quality on the minimum, maximum and standard deviation values.
